  I had such a great time at Stony Brook, overall it was a grand experience. I’m glad I got to visit the school and its wonderful campus, because it was definitely a memory I’ll never forget. Stony Brook’s campus was enormous! The college’s environment was very peaceful, it was very quiet, and relaxing. Best of all the campus was not crowded, there was a lot of space, it was not chaotic at all! My favorite aspects of the school were the multi, spunky colored sorority rocks, I found that such a cute idea, it made the campus much more lively. One other significant aspect that sparked my interest was that the different areas of study were all in their own buildings, such as the geometry building, the chemistry building, the biology building, the business building. Stony Brook is definitely a college for the sciences, it is very science oriented. Although I didn’t get to see the school’s field, from my eyes it looked rather huge, it was very spacious. I did get to see the school’s basketball area, it was beautiful! I loved it, the bleachers, the waxed floors, it was all just so perfect, GO SEAWOLVES! Most importantly, the people! The students on campus were so nice, they were so friendly, when we needed guidance, students gave us direction without any problems. Stony Brook’s library was also rather huge, it was very peaceful, and a lot of student’s were using the library since it was their finals week, they were working hard studying. The school’s store had much of a variety as well, macbook pro’s were even sold. One other thing I found rather interesting was the bathrooms, Stony brook had all gender restrooms, which means boys and girls, were allowed to use the same restroom, which automatically infers that the school supports LGBTS. From reading the flyers pinned onto the boards, I was able to tell the campus held a series of social events, such as a bonfire, a BBQ, tutoring sessions, flea markets, book sales, and etc. While we were there we even got to take a sneak peak at a tea party/ birthday party going on, it was so cute! I was already able to tell the students had such strong bonds with one another. There was even a veggie garden, the food was also pretty good too. One other aspect I found interesting was the starbucks held upstairs from the cafeteria, it was such a spontaneous environment, I was able to tell Starbucks was pretty popular over there due to it being so packed, the couches looked so comfy, and students were piled up with one another, some enjoying conversation, and some digging their noses into their textbooks, I just love the way it was formatted, everyone was so social. Overall I enjoyed my time at Stony Brook, I want to go again, I feel as if there’s so much more to see!

On Monday, May 7 we went to our first college, it was Stony Brook. I'm not gonna lie it was a rather nice campus not specifically what I was looking for but if your interested in Geometry or Physics. It looks like they have a pretty good program for it, they actually just made a new building about it. As you walk on that campus you will see lots of nature and wildlife, you might even see some wild mushrooms. A little tip that we learned was when your walking through the campus where your most comfortable shoes because your going to WALK a lot. Stony Brook is definitely a nice environment for some groups they even have tea party's that way you have chance to meet your classmates and roommates. Not to mention their Campus Vegetable Gardens, they were growing carrots and other healthy vegetables. Now this show a lot in a college, it shows that this college is extremely green and environmentally friendly. I would definitely suggest this college to anyone who is looking for a spacious school, great programs, and like the outdoors.  Besides all this we also visited their Earth and Science Center, Arts Center, and their College of Business.

On May 8, 2012 we visited Barnard College an all girls schools in Manhattan. As we were on our tour I realized that Barnard is looking for a student of personality, someone that isn't afraid to say anything they want, a person with honesty. When Barnard begins to see your application they look at your high school grades of the whole four years and specifically the last semester of senior year. They also look at your SAT scores the average that their looking for is 670 for each section. As they observe this they keep in mind that their looking for a student that is a hard-worker and actually wants an education. Above all this they look at your income rate and according to that you either qualify for the HEOP program or not. In the HEOP program their more flexible in the grades for both your transcript and your SAT scores.

Furthermore, if I was going to apply to Barnard I actually don't know if I'm going to apply to the HEOP program or not mostly because I don't know what the income in my household.  Besides this I'm afraid that my portfolio will not fit for their standards making their board think twice before they accept me. But besides all this something in me is telling me that they will accept me but at the same time their not. What scares me the most is that I'm competing internationally so my chances of getting in are minimum.

Something I can do is study hard when it comes to tests and exams specifically in math right now. Every time that moment of blacking out comes to me in a test, kills me. I can't stand it because if I'm given work about it I can finish it with no hesitation from this you can see why I get really mad about it. The good thing is that you an always change it by just asking your teachers for help, but if there isn't anything you can't do then that will make you work harder. But when that happens to me it scares me because I do not want to go to summer school.

Barnard College

Barnard college is looking for students that have great potential and have high grades. But not only they look at that they look at most importantly at student’s personality and a person as an individual. They look at a person holistically, they care for how passionate you are for learning and how much emphasis you put in your education. The admission officer for Barnard said that they look for students that could do something for Barnard. The way they would see this is by looking at your writing, your ideas and the activities you have done that has made a change either on your community, the world or your life.

Barnard also looks for students with  great academic scores. This college looks for students in the average between  A- and B+, for the SAT scores you have to have an average of a 670 on each section. However, if you do not meet the academic standard, Barnard gives you an opportunity to apply for the HEOP program. This program is for students with an low income. Barnard knows that there are students that don't have the same opportunities of other students because of their economic struggles to pay for extra help, tutors, classes and etc. So for students with problems with income problems, applying to HEOP will give you a greater chance in getting in Barnard.

If I applied to Barnard I will probably get accepted, but only because the HEOP program. My family has a low income and thats the reason why I do not have many opportunities like other students. Although, this is a problem i have a good GPA, this could help me enter the program. I could also show Barnard what  I am capable of doing and how I am a really hard worker. But in order to really have a opportunity to get into Barnard, I have to work to improve my academic scores. Although I believe my GPA is good, I feel that it could be better. I would also have to work on my SAT scores and to prepare for that I need to practice a lot. I also need to do volunteer work so they could see that what I am good at and so they so see how hard I work to accomplish my goals. If Barnard give me that one opportunity I will not advantage of it.

Barnard College

Barnard is looking for a well educated student but also someone with a  great personalty. If a student does not have the best grades in the world, but because of their application and teacher recommendation letter, the school can tell what type of person they are. They also want a student who will bring something to the campus and classes. A student who likes to participate is great in their eyes, but students who have excellent writing but does not participate as much is also well accepted and appreciated. Since Barnard is so interested in knowing the person, they give students a survey to figure out different things about them such as what type of music they like, what time they go to sleep and wake up. Staff and faculty use this to match roommates who share the same characteristics.
If I applied to Barnard, I might be accepted if I apply using the HEOP program. My GPA is about a 3.2, which isn't really up to the standards of Barnard. I'm not sure if I would have the SAT scores they would like, but I'm sure that I can meet the average they are looking for. I also feel as though I have a great personality. As a student I would bring fun and excitement to the campus and classroom. Anyone that knows me well will agree that I am very eager to learn. In classes I will participate and complete all assignments.
To increase my chances of being accepted to Barnard I would do many things. I would engage in many more extra curricular activities, like joining clubs and sports teams. I will also challenge myself to take more vigorous courses. Taking college courses and AP classes would be my focus. Since my GPA isn't the greatest I would also focus on boosting my GPA in all classes and overall. Studying harder and putting more effort in my work would help increase my GPA.

Barnard College

      On Tuesday, we visited Barnard college. I found out that the school is looking for students who are eager to learn. Barnard wants students who have taken many advantages of activities set out for them. The people who review the applications also want students who can contribute to class with great ideas by participating, as well as students with good writing skills. If I apply to Barnard today, I think that I would have wasted my money, because I would not get admitted. The reason being so is because right now, I do not have the average GPA that Barnard is looking for. Furthermore, if I take the SAT, I would not receive the score that Barnard is looking for. Right now, I think that if I start improving my habits than I can have a chance to get into Barnard. I have to start reviewing my notes after school finishes, because I tend to forget new things I learn unless it is really interesting for me. In addition, I can improve my grades for each class by participating. Furthermore, when I am working with my homework that includes reading, I feel like I need to read it twice so that I can understand the reading. Also, I feel that I should try many activities that are outside school and not just inside school.

Barnard Collage

Today we visited Barnard collage and Colombia University. Which was located on the upper west side of Manhattan and both of the schools are right next to each other not really they are across the street but they are very good because the students from Colombia University could go to Barnard college and they can study together even though its an all girls school so boys can go to that school to. 

      Barnard is a very good school and they really care about the persons personalty and how the person is and if you got suspended you have to tell the truth and say the reason why you were suspended because they want to know the truth and they wont penalize you because of what you did and that if your were bad in freshmen year that if you keep going up that they are going to accept you and if you keep going down that you might not get accepted to that school even tho its a very good school.

       

       And did i mention that it is an all girls school which is very good school and you need a average of 3.5.  

  Yesterday my Rensizzle Group visited Barnard College. Based on what I saw and heard, Barnard is looking for female students with a good personality, honesty, and whatever you have to pursue as a person.They don’t only want to look for SAT or ACT scores.They believe someone always has something to give off. And, you shouldn’t just look at a person’s grades. They want to see various things in a person. They also want a  student to have excellent writing skills, ideas, and, curiosity in learning. If you have all these aspects, you will definitely get into Barnard College.
    If I were to apply to Barnard I don't think I’d be admitted but, then again I still have more time to change things. However, there is a program called HEOP.  HEOP is a program for low income students who fall on admission requirements. Right now I don’t meet Barnard’s GPA standards although I do have time to change that. As for my PSAT scores, they were low. Then again, they look for personality. Nor do I fit in their categories as per majors for liberal arts. So, this isnt the school for me. If other people are committed they should apply to Barnard College.
    Some things to for me to be admitted to Barnard are getting a 3.7 or above in my GPA, applying to college courses, exploring more internships, and, getting high SAT or ACT scores. If you don’t meet to there standards, don’t consider applying to Barnard. Overall it was quite interesting exploring what this college wanted from students.

Barnard

 I did not attend the trip for Barnard, but from what I hear from other students is that it is an satisfying college. Barnard university is a very competitive university, they have certain expectations for the students that they let into the school, and if you dot fit those expectations then your not getting accepted into the school. In addition its an cohesive campus. Each student gets an adviser, and there is security everywhere. Moreover this university is not that diverse. This school is mostly filled with Caucasian people, at least that's what others say.
    The type of student Barnard is looking for is smart, and very enthusiastic. They want a person that has very high grades, and good SAT scores. But in Barnard there is an program, to make it not that competitive, which is called the H.E.O.P program. This program is for the students that don't meet their expectations, their GPA is like B+. This is a program that will make it easier for them to get in based upon their income status. If they have low income then they will get into the school.  Barnard is the type of school that looks at students activities. Barnard is very hard to get into and will pick you based upon certain circumstances. Basically the school wants a student that is smart, which is typical for a college.
     If I applied to Barnard today I don't think I would be admitted only because of my grades. My grades are not that high, which is not what Barnard is looking for. Moreover even if I tried to get into the H.E.O.P program, I would not qualify because my income is not that low. So my chances of getting into Barnard is not that high.
To improve my chances to get into Barnard, I would study  more. I figure that the more I study the higher the grades, the higher the chances of me getting into Barnard. I would take SAT classes, because they look at SAT scores. My goal would be to get high SAT scores. Also I would visit the school as many times that I can because if I was choose for an interview I would make sure they remember my face.

Barnard

Although I did not get a chance to visit Barnard, using the facts that the others told me Barnard is a very good school. They are looking for girls who excel in school and have bold personalities. They like hard-working students, their average requirement for admissions is 3.5 gpa, and SAT scores ranging from 670 on each section. I was told that Barnard has a program for students who just fall below the admission requirements but meet some of them. This program is called HEOP. HEOP is a statewide program that gives students a chance to attend private colleges if they struggle financially.

If I applied to Barnard today I think that I would have a good chance of being admitted. I am a person with a very dense personality, I challenge myself by taking rigorous courses at my high school, my gpa meets the requirement and I participate in a lot of extra curricular activities. The only thing that frightens me is my SAT score. I am not a good test taker, while taking important tests such as the SATS and the NYS Regents exams I experience test anxiety.

In order to increase my chances of being admitted to Barnard I will have to study very hard and inherit better test taking skills. I intend on spending my Summer studying for my SATS. By next Spring I will be able to take tests such as the SATS with ease and hopefully I score high enough to get into good colleges.

Stony Brook university
    Stony Brook university was an acceptable college.The college was very spacious, and very nice. There was an vegetable garden, that was small, but very cute. Its a very competitive SUNY college. In addition its not that diverse. During the tour of the college, I was looking at the number of the African American students, and there was only 50- 60 students in counting. I am very picky with colleges, and I wouldn't choose this college because its not that diverse. Moreover there is a big gym, which is something I like to look at when I am looking for a college. Also the college is very clean, and has many buildings based upon what you want to study. There is an gymnasium, sports complex,  medical center, lecture hall, there is also a building separate for business, and sociology. There is an student activities center, where they have sports, and different activities that students can attend. I like the whole college overall for a student that is not looking for a diverse school. If you are looking for a diverse school, then this school is not for you, because from the way it looks, this school is not that diverse. But overall this college is not so bad, its very clean, and from what I can tell you, you definitely wont be bored in this school, because of the wide spread of activities that they have.

Stony Brook University

On May 7, 2012 my Rensizzle group visited Stony Brook University located in Long Island. From the school we took the train to 61st and then we took the Long Island Rail Road to get to University. The trip there was fun because the LIRR was very comfortable and it only took an hour and a half to get there, not so bad. When we arrived we took a 10 minute walk to the University because it was very close to the LIRR, which was really great. On our self- guided tour we visited the Stony Brook Library, the Stony Brook Medical Center, the Student Union, the Office of Admissions, the Student Activity Center and the Bookstore. In addition we passed by the Physics and geometry center, the Chemistry building, the College of Business, the Earth and Space Science building, the Psychology building, the Computer Science building, the Life Sciences building and the dorms. During our visited I noticed that most buildings had many windows which help bring the light from outside in. Stony Brook seem a very environmental friendly school, because it had a lot of trees, a lake, solar panels on a crossing pole and it even has a vegetable garden. But best of all the school was very diverse which I liked a lot. What I found very interesting about the University was that they made many crazy and interesting discoveries. Stony Brook also had an amazing medical center with a science program that interested me a lot. Some things that I will suggest the University to have is more maps and safety buttons around, in case of danger. But overall the visit was great and I had lots of fun. Although on our way back we were very close to not catching the bus because we were running late.

Stony Brook

Today on May 7th, 2012 my Rensizzle group visited SUNY Stony brook.
SUNY Stony brook is located in long island. We all met up at the
school at 8:30; from there we gathered everyone up and took the 7
train to 61st Woodside. At Woodside we caught the LIRR. This commute
was not a straight run, we had to take two LIRR trains at a connecting
station. I never rode on the LIRR in my entire life, today was
definitely a great experience. I didn’t know there were double-decker
trains, for the first time I rode one today. When I got on the
double-decker, I was very excited. I always saw these trains in movies
but never in real life. Both LIRR trains were comfortable, the seats
were roomy and I got to sit next to Alina the entire trip. The commute
to the University was approximately 1.5 hours.
       Prior to visiting SUNY Stony Brook I knew a few things. I was told by
my aunt who lives not too far from the University that it was a SUNY
University with residency on campus. I also knew that the University
considered itself one of the “Ivy League” Universities of the SUNY’s.
At the school, we walked around and saw the Geometry building, the
College of Business, the Earth Space and Science building, the
Humanities building and much more!
       The thing I liked most about the school is that it provides my major
and they are very strong in Math and Sciences, and it’s bike friendly.
I want to study medicine in college so Stony Brook is everything I’ve
been looking for however; there are many things that I do not like
about the school. One thing I don’t like about the school is that it
is very outdated. The majority of the buildings look like they have
been standing for many years and that concerns me. I’d like to be on a
campus that is relatively new. There are a few new buildings in the
process of being built. Another thing that concerns me about the
college is the lack of diversity. I do not like seeing the same race
over and over again.
       I would apply to the school, maybe instead of dorming on campus I
would live at home and commute every day. I don’t like the idea of
commuting but it beats staying

Stony Brook University

           Today our rensizzle group visited the SUNY of Stony Brook. To get to Stony Brook from The renaissance charter school we took the 7 train to 61st street Woodside and caught the LIRR. The train ride was a bit long going, but felt shorter coming back. When we arrived at Stony Brook we passed different sites around such as the college of business, the sports complex, the student activities center, the psychology center, Staller center for the arts and a bulletin board which was full of flyers that helped us figure out many of the activities that students of Stony Brook attend or could possibly consider. Before we even started the actual, tour we all learned that at this SUNY they have a gender friendly bathroom for all sexes. This shows that Stony Brook is an LGBT friendly community. The campus is also a very clean environment with laid back and considerate students. There are many different majors and minors at Stony Brook such as prelaw studies, health sciences, social and behavioral sciences, pre med, teacher preparation and much more. The thing I liked most about this university is that it's not too close to home but also not so far. There was some construction going on in some places which seemed like they were trying to improve the college even more. There's also a lot of majors to choose from and many sports I could participate in. Something I didn't like so much about this university is all of the walking we did to get to certain places, but it's easy to work around that. I would apply to this school because I feel like it has a lot to offer. I'd also recommend this university to my fellow high school students.
