Queens College

On May 10, 2012 we visited Queens College. The ride there took about 45 minutes and we had to take the train and a bus. We began our tour by visiting the library, the library was very beautiful. From the outside we could see how the library had a tower on top with a big clock that makes a sound every hour.  But before that we visited the admissions office and we saw pictures of people that graduated from there and were very important, mostly because they were important in the media. According to our tour guide we learned that the GPA to enter the college could be a 2.9  and a 475 in the SAT reading and a 510 on the SAT math. Walking around we saw how there were many varieties of cultures. There was also a pottery sale which had many items that were very colorful and pretty. Queens college also had a big lawn which is good for playing and hanging out. We also visited one of the cafeterias where we sat and ate with all the group. I would apply to Queens college because of the great library, the racial diversity and the great big lawn they have.

Queens College

Our Rensizzle group visited Queens College yesterday ( May 10,2012 ). Originally our group was supposed to go to St. John's but our bus never came and our tour guide got sick, so we quickly planned to go to Queens College. We got there by both train, and bus. It took about an hour to get to the college. Our train ride was easy and smooth but once we got to the bus we found out that Ana couldn't pay more than five times on the bus, but luckily some of our peers happened to be carrying spare metro cards to pay for the other people who didn't have one. When we got to the college we stopped for a second to look around at the big campus which had a beautiful landscape. After a while we met up with Raul who was a former Renaissance student. We visited Rosenthal library and from there we went up to the tower where we got to listen to the clock's lovely chimes that happened to interrupt Tajzae's statement. We also went to go visit  Delany Hall to say our thank you's to the people who helped us get the opportunity to participate in the college now program. I learned that three people happened to be murdered in Mississippi during the fighting for the civil rights movement and I also found out that there have been new buildings built in the past few years. In Queens College there is a good arts program that Raul spoke to us about that had me really interested. I think what I liked the most about Queens College would have to be how diverse the school was and how the landscape made me feel as if I was home. I don't think I disliked anything about the school. If I had the chance I think I would apply to Queens College because it looks like a good college for me to study in.

Queens College

On May 11, 2012 we visited Queens College which is located in Flushing, N.Y.At first we were planning on going to St.John's, but our bus had not arrived and neither did our tour guide who is an alum from the Renaissance Charter School. We then decided to go to Queens College because it allows self-guided tours. In order to get to Queens College, we first took the 7 train towards Flushing and stopped at the last stop which is Main Street. We later walked to the bus stop to get the Q34 or the Q25 bus. It took us about a hour and thirty to reach Queens College. When we reached the campus, we visited the Science Building, Powdermaker Hall, Delany Hall, and the Rosenthal Hall. It was really easy to get to the different buildings. The Library was really nice and it had 3 floors with an open rooftop. I liked that in the Library there was a floor with little cubes that you could study quietly in peace. Furthermore, I think that the campus was racially diverse. The average GPA you need to achieve in order to get into Queens College is a 2.9 and for the SAT’s you need a score of 510 for the math and as for the English 475.  In addition, I found out that the popular majors are Accounting, Psychology, General Economics, General English, Language and literature, and sociology.I would not apply to this school because I think that there are other colleges that can help me achieve my career.

The Rosenthal Library

Lehman college

Today our Rensizzle group visited Lehman college. We traveled by bus to get there. And it took us 30 minutes to get there and then the way back we had to go on train. We took the 4 to Grand Central then transfer to the 7 from Grand Central then some people got out in different spot but some people got out on 82nd like me.

It was very good it was very convenient because the train was right next to the school so it was good. Before Lehman was named that it used to be named Hunter Uptown.

What our group did at the college was good to an underground tunnel but you can only use it when there is very bad weather. And also we went to Carman hall information technology center. We went to a diner. It smells like a pool no matter what day it is it could be very cold it would still smell like that or it could be very sunny. What the students most study at this school is info tech center. I like how the subway is very close to the school so its not that hard for transportation.

Yesterday our Rensizzle Group visited Queens College. We took the train and the bus. It took us an hour to get there. When we got there, we saw that the campus was enormous. We got a tour from an alum in our school named Raul. I found out that you have to get a 2.9 GPA, which isn't too bad. Another requirement is to get a 510 in Math, 475 in English in your SATS.The reason they assign this GPA is because they feel they should give you another chance to improve your grades. I found that great because other colleges usually have a high expectation for your GPA. Something that I didn't know was that famous people graduated from this college. Some famous people that graduated from Queens College are Jerry Seinfeld, Raymond Romano, and, etc. Most students study Philosophy, Antropology, Sociology, and, etc.  The buildings we visited was the Tower, The Library, Cafeteria, Science Building, Administration Office, College Now Office, and, etc. What I liked about the school is that you can travel easily and get your way around since it is in Queens. My father also went to this college, so it would be nice if his daughter went as well. The only thing that I didn't like were the insects in the fields. I had a mini allergic reaction. Overall, it was a great experience visiting Queens College.

On Wednesday our College Rensizzle visited Lehman College by a school bus.It took us about 30 minutes to get there. I had been to Lehman College before but it was only for basketball since my dad is the assistant coach for the women’s basketball team. I’ve never really explored the campus till that day. Our tour guide was an alumni from TRCS. His Enrique and he graduated in 2009 and he was a very nice guy. He talked a little bit about Lehman history. Lehman was founded by Herbert H Lehman, who was also the 45th Government of New York . Lehman College also used to be a part of Hunter College until 1968. The most important things that you need to know about Lehman College is that you should never be afraid to ask questions, and never be late for class or the professors will kick you out. We saw many awesome buildings, they an old gymnasium where the student’s gets their IDs checked. One of my favorite buildings is APEX because of the huge basketball court.

Queens College

On Thursday, May 10th 2012, Our Rensizzle group were supposed to visit St. John’s University but that didn’t go as planned. We made a few changes and decided to visit Queens College in Flushing, NY. To travel to Queens College we took the 7 train to flushing and caught the Q25 bus. The ride to the Queens College was pretty short and easy going. When we arrived at the school we were given a map of the campus which helped up on our self guided tour. At the school we first stumbled upon Jefferson Port, where we saw the Queens College alumni whom also happened to include Fran Dresher, Ray Romano and Jerry Seinfeld, all who are very successful actors today. We visited the incredible library that Queens College has to offer. The library had approximately 6 floors and each floor had its own theme, such as Art, History, Science and more. The library also had a rooftop which was available for people to study on. The school also had a science building and a display of different sorts of rocks you can find In Connecticut, New York and New Jersey and also showed us a huge map of Long Island. After we left the science building we checked out the cafeteria. The cafeteria like most had a place where you can purchase your food and an enormous amount of space for students to socialize. While attending this college I learned that you have to have a grade point average of about a 2.9 which is just about where I am right now. There are also different majors you can study at Queens College. I like that this school was also diverse and everyone could fit in there. I would apply to this school because I feel that it has a beautiful campus and it has a lot to offer.

Lehman College.

We visited Lehman College, located in the bronx. We took a school bus there and took a train back. The campus was very open.  I liked that they had these tunnels underground to get from place to place when the weather is too rainy or snowy, i thought that was very useful. I really didn’t like that they didn’t have any dorms which means that I would have to travel every morning to get to school. We saw the library, Shuster Hall, Carman hall, and Davis Hall.. I learned that we should pay attention to what teachers are teaching us now because it can be helpful in the future. I don’t think that there is any one thing that the students their study because there are different majors to choose from. I don’t think i would apply to this college, it has great programs but i want to go to a college with dorms, I want to go to a college that has dorms because I want to get away from home, and also i don't want to have to travel everyday.

May 10th in my rensizzle we went to Queens college. Originally the plan was to go St John's college, but there was a problem that occured with the bus, and the person that was supposed to give us a tour of the college. So we decided to go to Queens college. We took the 7 train on the Manhattan side because the flushing side was under construction. We got off at main street, and transfered to the Q25 bus. Once we got off the bus the college looked amazing. There was students walking around, and the campus was huge. Before we entered the building we saw the map, to see how big the school was, and all the buildings we were going to see.  There is the Delany hall, Kisssena, Klapper, and many other buildings. At Jefferson port we saw celebrities that had went to the school, such as Fran Drescher, Ray Romano, Jerry Steinfield, and more. One thing I noticed about the school that I did not know before was that you can have 2.9 GPA in the college. There are plenty of courses you can take at the school, but the best course is the Arts. Many students study art, medicine, Engineering, and many more. What I like most about the school is the campus. The campus is beautiful, its clean, there are trees, and lots of land space. Moreover there is a big library. I love the Library in this college, its really big, and has a lot of books. Also there is diversity which is something I really like in the school. I did not like how there was no fashion class, all they had was visual, not designing. I would apply to this school because there are many things I like about the school. Also they have good teachers, and many activities. But then again I would not apply to this school because of the lack of courses I want to take in college, such as fashion.Overall the college is amazing.

Queens College

On Thursday, May 10th, I arrived at Renaissance expecting to head to St. Johns University. At around 10am, we got the news that something went wrong with the bus and that it will not be coming to pick us up. Then we soon found out that the alumni that agreed to give us a tour of St. Johns got sick. So overall we were stuck in Renaissance trying to figure out what to do. Girelle and Ana did a little research and found that Queens College had a self-guided tour available. This was great since these plans were very last minute.
As a group we left the Renaissance around 10:30am and took the 7 train to Flushing. From Flushing we took the Q25 to Queens College. When we arrived at the campus I was very impressed with the security. She was very helpful. I also loved the campus itself. It is a very large campus and is very very clean. As we walked through the campus we visited many different buildings such as the library, science building, cafeteria and Jefferson Port. In Jefferson Port, there was a wall of alumni. Queens College is the alma mater to many famous acrtors and actresses such as Jerry Seinfeld, Fran Drescher, and Ray Romano. The library located at the back of the campus was very nice. It was neat, quiet and even had an outside deck for students who enjoys sitting outside while studying or reading. The science building was also very nice. It was a large building that had many labs and walls filled with maps and many artifacts. There was also a little cafe located near the entrance and a place to study. After visiting those buildings, we all got hungry and decided to walk across campus to the cafeteria. The caeteria was very spacious  but had a limited amount of options for lunch.
Overall I enjoyed my time at the campus. I would consider applying to Queens College because it is very close to home, the campus is beautiful and it is very diverse as far as ethnicity.

                                                       Queens College
On May 11thwe visited Queens College, although it was not my first time actually being on campus, I truly enjoyed my time being there. Queens College is roughly about an hour away.  We took the 7 train to the last stop which is Flushing, then got on the Q27 and it left us directly on campus. I was totally in love with the school’s campus, it was extremely convenient. All the buildings were so close to one another, and the map in the front of the campus was very accurate. All my group members were very proactive within using the map. The environment on campus is beautiful, it is very clean and peaceful, there is such diversity amongst the students, and the campus was so much livelier compared to the other campuses my group has visited.
One other aspect in which I enjoyed about Queens College would be the library, the library was huge, and it was such a peaceful space, I was in love with the huge clock that was on top of the library, and the little lounge area that was kept up top of the library, it was even outdoors, it was a bit chilly when we were up top, but I can only imagine how nice it would be to be up there when the weather is warmer, and when the Spring/Summer kick in. Throughout Queens College there was also a wide variety of classes.  We also met with a former alumnus of Renaissance Charter School, Raul who had also attended Queens College.  Raul explained to us all the glory and beauty of the college; he gave us key advice, and raised awareness about how difficult and competitive it is to actually get into the college. Raul explained that you need a 2.9 at most to be accepted, and you need an approximate 510 on the math portion of the SAT’s and a 475 on the critical reading portion. Raul also explained the SEEK program, and how it allowed student’s a great opportunity, and gave them a chance to improve, and get their grades up, it’s like giving one a chance to succeed. One other aspect I enjoyed about the college was that everything looked so new, almost all the buildings, the steps, the fountain, the benches, almost everything; I was in love with the school, and everything around it. I feel as if the ride is convenient, it is not a far trip, everything is accurate, and I truly believe the college has a lot to offer.

Barnard College

Today we visited Barnard College and Columbia University, both located in Manhattan. We rode the 7 train and the 1 train to get to our destination. We first went to Barnard. When we got there we went to get our tour guide. We visited the dorms first. The dorm we visited had a bunk bed, a single bed, two desks, closets, and dressers. The tour guide told us that normal dorms usually don't have bunk beds, they usually have two single beds. Next we sat down outside next to this big lawn, that (our tour guide told us) were sometimes used for bbqs and celebrations.
Barnard looks a lot at the personality of the students accepted. They want to know what kind of person you are. They also look at the transcript. The average GPA is 3.5, but they accept students with lower GPA's. The average SAT score is 670 per section, but again they accept students who have scored lower. They don't look so much at the SAT's. They understand that during freshman year the student GPA might not be that high but like like to see an upward trend. They need to know the student is getting better before they are accepted in to school. They like students to be honest about everything. For example if you were ever suspended they want you to be upfront about it rather than cover it up.
I think i would apply to Barnard. I like that it is close to home but not too close. I'm not sure if i like that it is an all girl school though. It is good because it is less distractions i also would like to see guys in college.

Queens College
Yesterday May 11th we visited Queens College. Initially, we were supposed to go to St. Johns University but our plans fell through. An alumnus from our high school was supposed to meet us at our school at 10am but he woke up late and felt very sick. He was sincere for not being able to take us to St.Johns. Luckily the school bus that was supposed to take us was having difficulties and could not pick us up. Ana and Girelle used their resources and called local colleges and universities. They were able to get through to Queens College, it is nearby so we took the 7 train to Main Street and got on the Q25. Our school train pass was not valid for the bus so Ana and Girelle had to pay. With the metro card they bought, they couldn’t
When we got to Queens College we visited the admissions office and picked up our self-guided tour brochures. We continued on walking and made our first stop in Powdermaker Hall. Powdermaker Hall is mostly for Humanities classes. The building was huge and the classrooms were small. I liked that the classrooms were small because all my life I’ve been taught in classrooms with no more than 27 students. After we left Powdermaker Hall we met up with an Alumnus from my school that graduated in 01’. He gave us a tour of the rest of the campus. We went to the library, it was beautiful. It had six floors and an outdoor space where people could get fresh air. The next building we visited after the library was the science building. It was huge, there were many labs and long hallways filled with artifacts and maps. After the science building we ate lunch in the cafeteria. The most interesting part about the cafeteria was a Brita water filter that was mounted onto the wall. It was a station that provided free filtered water. After lunch we went to a pottery stand and then we left. On our way back we took the Q25 to Mainstreet. Me, Tiffany, Monique and Tajzae went to go get bubble tea. I had a fun day even though there was a major change of plans.
I would go to Queens College because it has a program for Neuroscience. The campus is beautiful and it is very close to my house. The entire campus is relatively new and it is very diverse.

Queens College

We visited Queens College, located in Flushing. We took the Train and the bus to get there. We Visited the Library. I liked the library because it was beautiful. I loved how it was laid out and everything. Before I visited Queens College, I didn't know that many famous people had attended this college. For example Fran Drescher. The Campus itself was gigantic. There were so many buildings to visit, we weren’t sure which place to go to first. I liked how the school was open, and welcoming. Inside the buildings there was so much light. The campus was beautiful. There was so much grass and trees. The average GPA  to get in to Queens College is 2.9 and the average SAT scores are a 510 in math and 470 in critical reading. They don’t really look at the writing, and you need at least and 80 in the math regents.
